Kristen Taekman: RHONY'S Real Life Carrie Bradshaw

Glenn Rowley

Legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent was quoted as having once said, "Fashions fade, style is eternal." Many a Housewife has tried to make fashion part of her personal brand, but no one embodies that quote as well as RHONY's Kristen Taekman. A few episodes back saw her holding an impromptu, guerrilla-style photoshoot on the streets of Manhattan for her new style blog, Last Night's Look. While other Housewives have opened boutiques in Beverly Hills, launched collections on QVC and even lent their names to Tal Shen-designed dress lines, Taekman's focus is purely on sharing her unique style POV with fans and viewers alike.

Whether she's wearing two different Manolo Blahniks for a night out in Atlantic City (above) or throwing on a cozy sweater for a weekend in the Hamptons, Taekman's style is simultaneously timeless and boldly statement-making. At least once an episode, her outfits have me reaching for the rewind button, just so I can see what she's wearing one more time. And the best part is, the working model and mom of two documents all of her favorite looks, both on and off the show, on her blog. In one of our regular post-RHONY debrief sessions, my best friend hit the nail on the head by noting that Kristen's effortless style was the real-life incarnation of another beloved New York fashion icon seen on television screens around the world: Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw. While some of her castmates are off embracing their inner Samanthas and dating younger men, the always-classy Taekman lets her ensembles do the talking. Even more relatable than Ms. Bradshaw, the Housewife doesn't shy away from investing in must-have pieces that can be worn more than once, like the grey Stuart Weitzman boots she's sported to multiple events this season. She even re-wore part of her reunion look from last year during this season's Atlantic City trip - an unprecedented, rule-breaking move unseen on any Housewife from any other city.

Just like Carrie's famous flower pins from the HBO series, Kristen has a choice accessory that has become quintessentially hers in my mind: the oversized chain necklaces. I first noticed her affinity for the statement necklaces in her debut season of the show; and the trend has continued into the current season, where she's worn multiple iterations of the style both during filming and in her confessional interviews. The accessory instantly elevates any outfit she's wearing by adding the perfect touch to send her look over the top.

In addition to being a Housewife, a housewife, a model and running her fashion blog, Taekman recently launched Pop of Color, a nail polish line available exclusively at Ricky's NYC. Designed to be "that little hint of something that adds everything to your look," according to Taekman, each polish is produced cruelty-free, vegan and made entirely in New York City. The launch of the line is also rumored to be a point of contention between Taekman and her fellow Housewives later this season, so stay tuned for #POPGate...
